I am a few minutes late in posting this, as we had a crazy move on the charts right at 9:30 AM CST, so I wanted to see how that worked out before posting my chart. I assume it was from the natural gas storage report. There was a huge surplus over what was forecasted, so maybe that was the cause? Natural gas usually does not create much volatility, but that was one crazy move up, so it was a bit surprising. I thought maybe something was going on with my data, but I’ve reloaded a couple of times, and it certainly appears to be legitimate.

Prior to the move up, prices were selling off again today, so it looks like it could be another wild day with lots of mixed trading. Most news moves are taken back quickly, so we will have to wait and see if prices drift lower and take this move back or not. My guess is yes, assuming that this was a news move that created the rally.

I would call this mixed trading for now, even with the large move up. Prices could continue to trend higher, but I would not count on that happening until you see it happening on the chart. My guess is we will see prices take this move back and reset, as that is usually what happens. Do not trade on any of that though, always go with what the chart is showing you, so wait on the chart to confirm what it is going to do first.

  1. I had a similar problem with my data, even after reload all historical data. I was able to solve the problem by closing NT and restarting NT. Another possible solution would have been to disconnect data feed and reconnect.

    1. Yep, after seeing these messages and reloading again after lunch, my chart corrected. I reloaded it a few times in the morning thinking it looked like bad data, but it would not change, so I finally decided it must be a real bar. Usually when you have that issue, a quick reload usually corrects the problem.

  2. That’s bizarre. My chart doesn’t have that huge bar. I’ve tried reloading data a few times and my chart still looks like it has all morning.
